How high is the
testimony of the Sadratu’l-Muntahá for its leaf [the Greatest Holy Leaf]; how
exalted the witness of the Tree of Life unto its fruit! Through My remembrance
of her a fragrance laden with the perfume of musk hath been diffused; well is
it with him that hath inhaled it and exclaimed: ‘All praise be to Thee, O God,
my Lord the most glorious!’ How sweet thy presence before Me; how sweet to gaze
upon thy face, to bestow upon thee My loving-kindness, to favour thee with My
tender care, to make mention of thee in this, My Tablet—a Tablet which I have
ordained as a token of My hidden and manifest grace unto thee.

Let these exalted
words be thy love-song on the tree of Bahá, O thou most holy and resplendent
Leaf: ‘God, besides Whom is none other God, the Lord of this world and the
next!’ Verily, We have elevated thee to the rank of one of the most distinguished
among thy sex, and granted thee, in My court, a station such as none other
woman hath surpassed. Thus have We preferred thee and raised thee above the
rest, as a sign of grace from Him Who is the Lord of the throne on high and
earth below. We have created thine eyes to behold the light of My countenance, thine ears to
hearken unto the melody of My words, thy body to pay homage before My throne.
Do thou render thanks unto God, thy Lord, the Lord of all the world.

He is the Eternal!
This is My testimony for her [the Greatest Holy Leaf] who hath heard My voice
and drawn nigh unto Me. Verily, she is a leaf that hath sprung from this
preexistent Root. She hath revealed herself in My name and tasted of the sweet
savours of My holy, My wondrous pleasure. At one time We gave her to drink from
My honeyed Mouth, at another caused her to partake of My mighty, My luminous
Kawthar. Upon her rest the glory of My name and the fragrance of My shining
robe.

Can one of sane mind ever seriously imagine that, in view of
certain words the meaning of which he cannot comprehend, the portal of God’s
infinite guidance can ever be closed in the face of men? Can he ever conceive
for these Divine Luminaries, these resplendent Lights either a beginning or an
end? What outpouring flood can compare with the stream of His all-embracing
grace, and what blessing can excel the evidences of so great and pervasive a
mercy? There can be no doubt whatever that if for one moment the tide of His
mercy and grace were to be withheld from the world, it would completely perish.
For this reason, from the beginning that hath no beginning the portals of
Divine mercy have been flung open to the face of all created things, and the
clouds of Truth will continue to the end that hath no end to rain on the soil
of human capacity, reality and personality their favors and bounties. Such hath
been God’s method continued from everlasting to everlasting.

Say: O concourse of
Christians! We have, on a previous
occasion, revealed Ourself unto you, and ye recognized Me not. This is yet another occasion vouchsafed unto
you. This is the Day of God; turn ye
unto Him. He, verily, hath come down
from heaven even as He came down the first time, and He desireth to shelter you
beneath the shade of His mercy. He,
verily, is the Exalted, the Mighty, the Supreme Helper. The Beloved One loveth not that ye be
consumed with the fire of your desires. Were ye to be shut out as by a veil from Him, this would be for no other
reason than your own waywardness and ignorance. Ye make mention of Me, and know Me not. Ye call upon Me, and are heedless of My Revelation, notwithstanding that
I came unto you from the heaven of pre-existence with surpassing glory. Rend the veils asunder in My name and through
the power of My sovereignty that ye may discover a path unto your Lord.

In one of the Tablets these words have been revealed: O
people of God! Do not busy yourselves in your own concerns; let your thoughts
be fixed upon that which will rehabilitate the fortunes of mankind and sanctify
the hearts and souls of men. This can best be achieved through pure and holy
deeds, through a virtuous life and a goodly behaviour. Valiant acts will ensure
the triumph of this Cause, and a saintly character will reinforce its power.
Cleave unto righteousness, O people of Bahá! This, verily, is the commandment
which this Wronged One hath given unto you, and the first choice of His
unrestrained Will for every one of you.

Every man of insight will, in this day, readily admit that
the counsels which the Pen of this Wronged One hath revealed constitute the
supreme animating power for the advancement of the world and the exaltation of
its peoples. Arise, O people, and, by the power of God’s might, resolve to gain
the victory over your own selves, that haply the whole earth may be freed and
sanctified from its servitude to the gods of its idle fancies—gods that have
inflicted such loss upon, and are responsible for the misery of their wretched
worshippers. These idols form the obstacle that impedeth man in his efforts to
advance in the path of perfection. We cherish the hope that the Hand of divine
power may lend its assistance to mankind and deliver it from its state of
grievous abasement.

O thou who hast quaffed from the wine of Mine utterance and
hast fixed thy gaze upon the horizon of My Revelation! How strange that the
people of Persia, who were unrivalled in sciences and arts, should have sunk to
the lowest level of degradation among the kindreds of the earth. O people! In
this blessed, this glorious Day, deprive not yourselves of the liberal
effusions of bounty which the Lord of abounding grace hath vouchsafed unto you.
In this Day showers of wisdom and utterance are pouring down from the clouds of
divine mercy. Well is it with them who judge His Cause with fairness, and woe
betide the unjust.

Verily, the day of ingathering is come, and all things have
been separated from each other. He hath
stored away that which He chose in the vessels of justice, and cast into fire
that which befitteth it. Thus hath it
been decreed by your Lord, the Mighty, the Loving, in this promised Day. He, verily, ordaineth what He pleaseth. There is none other God save He, the
Almighty, the All-Compelling. The desire
of the Divine Sifter hath been to store up every good thing for Mine own
Self. Naught hath He spoken save to acquaint
you with My Cause and to guide you to the path of Him whose mention hath
adorned all the sacred Books.

Blessed the one who hath remained faithful to the Covenant
of God, and woe betide him who hath broken it and disbelieved in Him, the
Knower of secrets. Say: This is the Day of Bounty! Bestir yourselves that I may make you
monarchs in the realms of My Kingdom. If
ye follow Me, ye shall behold that which ye were promised, and I will make you
My companions in the dominion of My majesty and the intimates of My beauty in
the heaven of My power forevermore. If
ye rebel against Me, I will in My clemency endure it patiently, that haply ye
may awaken and rise up from the couch of heedlessness. Thus hath My mercy encompassed you. Fear ye God and follow not in the ways of
those who have turned away from His face, though they invoke His name in the daytime
and in the night season.

…Manifestations of God have each a twofold station. One is
the station of pure abstraction and essential unity. In this respect, if thou
callest them all by one name, and dost ascribe to them the same attribute, thou
hast not erred from the truth. Even as He hath revealed: “No distinction do We
make between any of His Messengers!” [2:285] For they one and all summon the
people of the earth to acknowledge the Unity of God, and herald unto them the
Kawthar of an infinite grace and bounty. They are all invested with the
robe of Prophethood, and honoured with the mantle of glory. …The other is the
station of distinction, and pertaineth to the world of creation and to the
limitations thereof. In this respect, each Manifestation of God hath a distinct
individuality, a definitely prescribed mission, a predestined Revelation, and
specially designated limitations. Each one of them is known by a different
name, is characterized by a special attribute, fulfils a definite Mission, and
is entrusted with a particular Revelation.

Consort with all religions with amity and concord, that they
may inhale from you the sweet fragrance of God. Beware lest amidst men the
flame of foolish ignorance overpower you. All things proceed from God and unto
Him they return. He is the source of all things and in Him all things are

Yea, the seeker reacheth a station wherein that which hath
been ordained for him knoweth no bounds. The fire of love so blazeth in his
heart that it seizeth the reins of constraint from his grasp. At every moment
his love for his Lord increaseth and draweth him nearer unto his Creator, in
such wise that if his Lord be in the east of nearness, and he dwell in the west
of remoteness and possess all that earth and heaven contain of rubies and gold,
he would forsake it all and rush forth to the land of the Desired One.

He [the Báb] hath previously made known unto you that which
would be uttered by this Dayspring of Divine wisdom. He said, and He speaketh
the truth: “He [Baha’u’llah] is the One Who will under all conditions proclaim:
‘Verily, there is none other God besides Me, the One, the Incomparable, the
Omniscient, the All-Informed.’” This is a station which God hath assigned
exclusively to this sublime, this unique and wondrous Revelation. This is a
token of His bounteous favour, if ye be of them who comprehend, and a sign of
His irresistible decree. This is His Most Great Name, His Most Exalted Word,
and the Dayspring of His Most Excellent Titles, if ye could understand. Nay
more, through Him every Fountainhead, every Dawning-place of Divine guidance is
made manifest. Reflect, O people, on that which hath been sent down in truth;
ponder thereon, and be not of the transgressors.

Verily, He [the Báb] revealed certain laws so that, in this
Dispensation, the Pen of the Most High might have no need to move in aught but
the glorification of His own transcendent Station and His most effulgent
Beauty. Since, however, We have wished to evidence Our bounty unto you, We
have, through the power of truth, set forth these laws with clarity and
mitigated what We desire you to observe. He, verily, is the Munificent, the
Generous.
