“Recite ye the verses of God every morn and eventide.” (Bahá’u’lláh, ‘The Kitáb-i-Aqdas’)
June 9
Verily God is fully capable of causing all names to appear
in one name, and all souls in one soul. Surely powerful and mighty is He. And
this Return is realized at His behest in whatever form He willeth. Indeed He is
the One Who doeth and ordaineth all things. Moreover, thou shouldst not
perceive the fulfilment of the Return and the Resurrection save in the Word of
thy Lord, the Almighty, the All-Knowing. For instance, were He to take a
handful of earth and declare it to be the One Whom ye have been following in
the past, it would undoubtedly be just and true, even as His real Person, and
to none is given the right to question His authority. He doeth what He willeth
and ordaineth whatsoever He pleaseth. Moreover, in this station take thou heed
not to turn thy gaze unto limitations and allusions, but rather unto that
whereby the Revelation itself hath been fulfilled and be of them that are discerning.
Thus do We explain for thee in a lucid and explicit language that thou mayest
comprehend that which thou didst seek from thine ancient Lord.

Consider… the revelation of the light of the Name of God,
the Incomparable. Behold, how this light hath enveloped the entire creation,
how each and every thing manifesteth the sign of His Unity, testifieth to the
reality of Him Who is the Eternal Truth, proclaimeth His sovereignty, His
oneness, and His power. This revelation is a token of His mercy that hath
encompassed all created things. They that have joined partners with Him,
however, are unaware of such a revelation, and are deprived of the Faith through
which they can draw near unto, and be united with, Him. Witness how the divers
peoples and kindreds of the earth bear witness to His unity, and recognize His
oneness. But for the sign of the Unity of God within them, they would have
never acknowledged the truth of the words, “There is none other God but God.”
And yet, consider how grievously they have erred, and strayed from His path.
Inasmuch as they have failed to recognize the Sovereign Revealer, they have
ceased to be reckoned among those who may be regarded as true believers in the
Unity of God.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah)

If the veil were lifted, and the full glory of the station
of those that have turned wholly towards God, and have, in their love for Him,
renounced the world, were made manifest, the entire creation would be
dumbfounded.

Consider… the revelation of the light of the Name of God,
the Educator. Behold, how in all things the evidences of such a revelation are
manifest, how the betterment of all beings dependeth upon it. This education is
of two kinds. The one is universal. Its influence pervadeth all things and
sustaineth them. It is for this reason that God hath assumed the title, “Lord
of all worlds.” The other is confined to them that have come under the shadow
of this Name, and sought the shelter of this most mighty Revelation. They,
however, that have failed to seek this shelter, have deprived themselves of
this privilege, and are powerless to benefit from the spiritual sustenance that
hath been sent down through the heavenly grace of this Most Great Name. How
great the gulf fixed between the one and the other!

from the Writings of Baha’u’llah)

On that Day, the Daystar of Truth will address the people of
the Bayán and will recite this Súrih of the Qur’án: ‘Say: O ye unbelievers! I
worship not that which ye worship, and ye do not worship that which I worship.
I shall never worship that which ye worship, neither will ye worship that which
I worship. To you be your religion, to Me My religion.’
- The Báb (Quoted by
Baha’u’llah in ‘The Epistle to the Son of the Wolf’)

…in the exercise of the royal justice, it is not sufficient
to give ear to the claimant alone. God
saith in the Qur’án, the unerring Balance that distinguisheth truth from
falsehood: “O ye who believe! If a wicked man come to you with news, clear it
up at once, lest through ignorance ye harm others, and afterward repent of what
ye have done.” [Qur’an 49:6] The holy Traditions, moreover, contain the
admonition: “Believe not the tale-bearer.” Certain of the divines, who have
never seen Us, have misconceived the nature of Our Cause. Those, however, who
have met Us will testify that this Servant hath not spoken save in accordance
with that which God hath commanded in the Book, and that He hath called
attention to the following blessed verse—exalted be His Word: “Do ye not
disavow us merely because we believe in God, and in what He hath sent down unto
us, and in what He had sent down aforetime?” [Qur’an 5:59]
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet
to Nasiri’d-Din Shah, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the
Lord of Hosts’)

Thou hast asked regarding the subject of the return. Know
thou that the end is like unto the beginning. Even as thou dost consider the
beginning, similarly shouldst thou consider the end, and be of them that truly
perceive. Nay, rather consider the beginning as the end itself, and so
conversely, that thou mayest acquire a clear perception. Know thou moreover that
every created thing is continually brought forth and returned at the bidding of
thy Lord, the God of power and might.
As to the Return, as God hath purposed in His sacred and
exalted Tablets wherein He hath made this theme known unto His servants; by this
is meant the return of all created things in the Day of Resurrection, and this
is indeed the essence of the Return as thou hast witnessed in God’s own days
and thou art of them that testify to this truth.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Tablets of
Baha’u’llah revealed after the Kitab-i-Aqdas’)

Know thou moreover that thy letter reached Our presence and
We perceived and perused its contents. We noted the questions thou hast asked
and will readily answer thee. It behoveth everyone in this Day to ask God that
which he desireth, and thy Lord will heed his petition with wondrous and
undeniable verses.

Kitab-i-Aqdas’)

The clear tokens of My power roused the envy of My foes, and
the compelling evidences of My wisdom stirred the hatred of the malevolent: Not
a single night did I repose in peace; not a single morn did I awake in
tranquillity. I swear by the beauty of God that Husayn shed tears of anguish at
the wrongs I suffered and Abraham cast Himself into the flames for the sake of
the afflictions I sustained. Wert thou to gaze with discernment, thou wouldst
behold the Eye of Grandeur weeping sore beneath the tabernacle of sanctity, and
the Essence of Majesty lamenting within the realms of loftiness. Unto this
beareth witness the Tongue of truth and glory.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of
Remembrance)

A Word hath, as a token of Our grace, gone forth from the
Most Great Tablet—a Word which God hath adorned with the ornament of His own
Self, and made it sovereign over the earth and all that is therein, and a sign
of His greatness and power among its people, that all may glorify thereby their
Lord, the Almighty, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise, and extol the praise of
their Creator and the sanctity of the Soul of God that holdeth sway over all
created things. This, verily, is none other than a Word sent down by Him Who is
the All-Knowing, the Ancient of Days.
Render thanks unto God, O people, for His appearance; for
verily He is the most great Favour unto you, the most perfect bounty upon you;
and through Him every mouldering bone is quickened. Whoso turneth towards Him
hath turned towards God, and whoso turneth away from Him hath turned away from
My Beauty, hath repudiated My Proof, and transgressed against Me. He is the Trust
of God amongst you, His charge within you, His manifestation unto you and His
appearance among His favoured servants.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of Remembrance)
May 28
There hath branched from the Sadratu’l-Muntahá this sacred
and glorious Being, this Branch of Holiness; well is it with him that hath
sought His shelter and abideth beneath His shadow. Verily the Limb of the Law
of God hath sprung forth from this Root which God hath firmly implanted in the
Ground of His Will, and Whose Branch hath been so uplifted as to encompass the
whole of creation. Magnified be He, therefore, for this sublime, this blessed,
this mighty, this exalted Handiwork! Draw nigh unto Him, O people, and taste
the fruits of wisdom and knowledge that have proceeded from Him Who is the
Almighty, the All-Knowing. Whoso hath failed to taste thereof is deprived of
God’s bounty, though he partake of all that the earth can produce, could ye but
perceive it!
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of Remembrance)

Strive, O people, to enter beneath the sheltering shadow of the
Word of God. Quaff, then, from it the choice wine of inner meaning and
explanation, for it is the repository of the living waters of the All-Glorious
and hath appeared from the horizon of the Will of the All-Merciful with
matchless splendour. Say: Out of this Most Great Ocean there hath branched the
Pre-existent Sea; blessed the one that hath attained and found repose upon its
shores.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of Remembrance)
May 26
The All-Merciful saith in the Qur’án, His abiding testimony
unto all the peoples of the world: “Wish ye then for death, if ye be men of
truth.” [Qur’an 2:94, 62:6] Behold how
He hath declared the yearning for death to be the touchstone of sincerity! And,
in the luminous mirror of thy judgement, it is doubtless clear and evident
which people have chosen, in this day, to lay down their lives in the path of
the Beloved of the worlds. Indeed, were the books supporting the beliefs of
this people to be written with the blood spilled in the path of God—exalted be
His glory!—then countless volumes would have already appeared amongst men for
all to see.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Nasiri’d-Din Shah, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet
of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord of Hosts’)
May 25
O King! The breezes of the grace of the All-Merciful have
transformed these servants and attracted them unto His Holy Court. “The witness
of a true lover is upon his sleeve.” Nevertheless, some of the outwardly learned have troubled the luminous
heart of the King of the Age concerning these souls who revolve round the
Tabernacle of the All-Merciful and who seek to attain the Sanctuary of true
knowledge. Would that the world-adorning wish of His Majesty might decree that
this Servant be brought face to face with the divines of the age, and produce
proofs and testimonies in the presence of His Majesty the Sháh! This Servant is
ready, and taketh hope in God, that such a gathering may be convened in order
that the truth of the matter may be made clear and manifest before His Majesty
the Sháh. It is then for thee to command, and I stand ready before the throne
of thy sovereignty. Decide, then, for Me or against Me.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to
Nasiri’d-Din Shah, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord
of Hosts’)
May 24
O Pen of Glory! Intone the anthems of grandeur, for We have
inhaled the fragrance of reunion at the approach of that Day whereon the
kingdom of names was adorned with the ornament of Our Name, the Exalted, the
Most High. No sooner was this Day mentioned before the Throne than the Maids of
Heaven chanted a wondrous melody, the Nightingale pealed out its heavenly song,
and the All-Merciful gave voice to that which enraptured the souls of the
Messengers of God, His chosen ones, and those who enjoy near access to Him.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of Remembrance)
May 23
Lo, the Tongue of Glory hath called aloud and the Word of
God hath cried out, proclaiming: “The Kingdom is God’s, the Creator of the
heavens and the Lord of all names!” And yet the people, for the most part, are
heedless. The entire creation resoundeth with the melodies of the All-Merciful,
the realms of sanctity are redolent with the fragrance of His raiment, and the
Most Great Name hath shed the splendour of His glory upon all who dwell on
earth, and yet the people are wrapped in a palpable veil.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days
of Remembrance)
May 22
…O ye lovers of the beauty of the All-Glorious! O ye that
ardently seek the court of the presence of the Almighty! This is the day of
nearness and reunion, not the time for contention and idle words. If ye be
sincere lovers, behold the beauty of the Best-Beloved shining clear and
resplendent as the true morn. It behoveth you to be free from all attachment,
whether to yourselves or to others; nay, ye should renounce existence and
non-existence, light and darkness, glory and abasement alike. Sever your hearts
from all transitory things, from all idle fancies and vain imaginings, that ye
may, pure and unsullied, enter the realm of the spirit and partake with radiant
hearts of the splendours of everlasting holiness.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Days of
Remembrance)
May 21
That concealed Word upon which the souls of all the
Messengers of God and His Chosen Ones have ever depended hath manifested itself
out of the invisible world into the visible plane. No sooner had this hidden
Word shone forth from the Realm of inmost being and absolute singleness to
illumine the peoples of the earth than a breeze of mercy wafted therefrom,
purifying all things from the stench of sin and arraying the countless forms of
existence and the reality of man with the vesture of forgiveness. So great was
the wondrous grace which pervaded all things that through the utterance of the
letters “B” and “E” the gems that lay hid within the repositories of this
contingent world were brought forth and made manifest. Thus were the seen and
the unseen joined in one garment, and the hidden and the manifest clothed in a
single robe; thus did utter nothingness attain the realm of eternity, and pure
evanescence gain admittance into the court of everlasting life.
