“Recite ye the verses of God every morn and eventide.” (Bahá’u’lláh, ‘The Kitáb-i-Aqdas’)
February 19
Every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God is
endowed with such potency as can instill new life into every human frame, if ye
be of them that comprehend this truth. All the wondrous works ye behold in this
world have been manifested through the operation of His supreme and most
exalted Will, His wondrous and inflexible Purpose. Through the mere revelation
of the word “Fashioner,” issuing forth from His lips and proclaiming His
attribute to mankind, such power is released as can generate, through
successive ages, all the manifold arts which the hands of man can produce.
This, verily, is a certain truth. No sooner is this resplendent word uttered,
than its animating energies, stirring within all created things, give birth to
the means and instruments whereby such arts can be produced and perfected. All
the wondrous achievements ye now witness are the direct consequences of the
Revelation of this Name. In the days to come, ye will, verily, behold things of
which ye have never heard before. Thus hath it been decreed in the Tablets of
God, and none can comprehend it except them whose sight is sharp.
February 18
We behold it, [the world] in this day, at the mercy of
rulers so drunk with pride that they cannot discern clearly their own best
advantage, much less recognize a Revelation so bewildering and challenging as
this. And whenever any one of them hath
striven to improve its condition, his motive hath been his own gain, whether
confessedly so or not; and the unworthiness of this motive hath limited his
power to heal or cure.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah’)
February 17
The Pen of the Most High has recorded: "Fear of God is
the greatest commander that can render the Cause of God victorious, and the
hosts which best befit this commander have ever been and are an upright
character and pure and goodly deeds."
- Baha’u’llah (From the Kitáb-i-Ahd,
published in "Tablets of Bahá'u'lláh Revealed after the
Kitáb-i-'Aqdas"; The Compilation of Compilations, vol. I, Trustworthiness:
A Cardinal Bahá'í Virtue)
February 16
Man’s actions are acceptable after his having recognized
(the Manifestation). He that turneth aside
from the True One is indeed the most veiled amongst His creatures. Thus hath it been decreed by Him Who is the
Almighty, the Most Powerful.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Queen Victoria,
Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord of Hosts’)
February 15
Consider the people and the things they have wrought in My
days. We revealed unto one of the rulers that which overpowereth all the
dwellers of the earth, and requested him to bring Us face to face with the
learned men of this age, that We might set forth for him the testimony of God,
His proofs, His glory and His majesty; and naught did We intend thereby but the
highest good. However, he committed that which hath caused the inmates of the
cities of justice and equity to lament. Thus hath judgement been given between
Me and him. Verily thy Lord is the Ordainer, the All-Informed. In such
circumstances as thou seest, how can the Celestial Bird soar into the
atmosphere of divine mysteries when its wings have been battered with the
stones of idle fancy and bitter hatred, and it is cast into a prison built of
unyielding stone? By the righteousness of God! The people have perpetrated a
grievous injustice.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Tablets of Baha’u’llah revealed after the
Kitab-i-Aqdas’)
February 14
O ye the elected representatives of the people in every
land! Take ye counsel together, and let
your concern be only for that which profiteth mankind and bettereth the
condition thereof, if ye be of them that scan heedfully. Regard the world as the human body which,
though at its creation whole and perfect, hath been afflicted, through various
causes, with grave disorders and maladies.
Not for one day did it gain ease, nay its sickness waxed more severe, as
it fell under the treatment of ignorant physicians, who gave full rein to their
personal desires and have erred grievously.
And if, at one time, through the care of an able physician, a member of
that body was healed, the rest remained afflicted as before. Thus informeth you the All-Knowing, the
All-Wise.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Queen Victoria, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of
Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord of Hosts’)
February 13
February 12
As to him who turneth aside, and swelleth with pride, after
the clear tokens have come unto him from the Revealer of signs, his work shall
God bring to naught. He, in truth, hath power over all things.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Queen Victoria, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of
the Lord of Hosts’)
February 11
Grant, O my God, that I may not be reckoned among those
whose ears are deaf, whose eyes are blind, whose tongues are speechless and
whose hearts have failed to comprehend. Deliver me, O Lord, from the fire of
ignorance and of selfish desire, suffer me to be admitted into the precincts of
Thy transcendent mercy and send down upon me that which Thou hast ordained for
Thy chosen ones. Potent art Thou to do what Thou willest. Verily Thou art the
Help in Peril, the Self-Subsisting.
- The Báb (‘Selections from the Writings of
the Báb)
February 10
Muhammad… as the end of His mission drew nigh, spoke these
words: “Verily, I leave amongst you My twin weighty testimonies: The Book of
God and My Family.” Although many traditions had been revealed by that Source
of Prophethood and Mine of divine Guidance, yet He mentioned only that Book,
thereby appointing it as the mightiest instrument and surest testimony for the
seekers; a guide for the people until the Day of Resurrection.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Kitab-i-Iqan’)
February 9
Abandon me not to myself, O my Lord, nor deprive me of
recognizing Him Who is the Manifestation of Thine Own Self, nor account me with
such as have turned away from Thy holy presence. Number me, O my God, with
those who are privileged to fix their gaze upon Thy Beauty and who take such
delight therein that they would not exchange a single moment thereof with the
sovereignty of the kingdom of heavens and earth or with the entire realm of
creation.
- The Báb (‘Selections from the Writings of the Báb)
February 8
We have been informed that thou hast forbidden the trading in
slaves, both men and women. This, verily, is what God hath enjoined in this
wondrous Revelation. God hath, truly,
destined a reward for thee, because of this. He, verily, will pay the doer of
good his due recompense, wert thou to follow what hath been sent unto thee by
Him Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Informed.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Queen
Victoria, Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord of
Hosts’)
February 7
Lay aside thy desire, and set then thine heart towards thy
Lord, the Ancient of Days. We make mention of thee for the sake of God, and
desire that thy name may be exalted through thy remembrance of God, the Creator
of earth and heaven. He, verily, is
witness unto that which I say.
- Baha'u'llah (Tablet to Queen Victoria,
Suriy-i-Haykal [Tablet of Temple]; ‘The Summons of the Lord of Hosts’)
February 6
O Son of Man! My eternity is My creation, I have created it
for thee. Make it the garment of thy temple. My unity is My handiwork; I have
wrought it for thee; clothe thyself therewith, that thou mayest be to all
eternity the revelation of My everlasting being.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Hidden
Words of Baha’u’llah’)
February 5
All the things that people required in connection with the
Revelation of Muhammad and His laws were to be found revealed and manifest in
that Ridván of resplendent glory. That Book [the Qur’an] constitutes an abiding
testimony to its people after Muhammad, inasmuch as its decrees are
indisputable, and its promise unfailing. All have been enjoined to follow the
precepts of that Book until “the year sixty” —the year of the advent of God’s
wondrous Manifestation. That Book is the Book which unfailingly leadeth the
seeker unto the Ridván of the divine Presence, and causeth him that hath
forsaken his country and is treading the seeker’s path to enter the Tabernacle
of everlasting reunion. Its guidance can never err, its testimony no other
testimony can excel. All other traditions, all other books and records, are
bereft of such distinction, inasmuch as both the traditions and they that have
spoken them are confirmed and proven solely by the text of that Book. Moreover,
the traditions themselves grievously differ, and their obscurities are
manifold.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Kitab-i-Iqan’)
February 4
…in the Qur’án He saith: “Of what ask they of one another?
Of the Great Announcement.” This is the Announcement, the greatness of which
hath been mentioned in most of the Books of old and of more recent times. This
is the Announcement that hath caused the limbs of mankind to quake, except such
as God, the Protector, the Helper, the Succorer, hath willed to exempt. Men
have indeed with their own eyes witnessed how all men and all things have been
thrown into confusion and been sore perplexed, save those whom God hath chosen
to exempt.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Kitab-i-Iqan’)
February 3
O Shaykh! Great is the Cause, and great the Announcement!
Patiently and calmly ponder thou upon the resplendent signs and the sublime
words, and all that hath been revealed in these days, that haply thou mayest
fathom the mysteries that are hid in the Books, and mayest strive to guide His
servants. Hearken with thine inner ear unto the Voice of Jeremiah, Who saith:
“Oh, for great is that Day, and it hath no equal.” Wert thou to observe with
the eye of fairness, thou wouldst perceive the greatness of the Day. Incline
thine ear unto the Voice of this All-Knowing Counsellor, and suffer not thyself
to be deprived of the mercy that hath surpassed all created things, visible and
invisible. Lend an ear unto the song of David. He saith: “Who will bring me
into the Strong City?” The Strong City is Akká, which hath been named the Most
Great Prison, and which possesseth a fortress and mighty ramparts.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Epistle to the Son of the Wolf’)
February 2
Hearken unto the melodies of the Gospel with the ear of
fairness. He saith—glorified be His utterance—prophesying the things that are
to come: “But of that Day and Hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of
heaven, nor the Son, but the Father.” By Father in this connection is meant
God—exalted be His glory. He, verily, is the True Educator, and the Spiritual
Teacher.
Joel saith: “For the Day of the Lord is great and very
terrible; and who can abide it?” Firstly, in the sublime utterance set forth in
the Gospel He saith that none is aware of the time of the Revelation, that none
knoweth it except God, the All-Knowing, Who is cognizant of all. Secondly, He
setteth forth the greatness of the Revelation.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Epistle to the
Son of the Wolf’)

January 31
O Son of Man! The light hath shone on thee from the horizon
of the sacred Mount and the spirit of enlightenment hath breathed in the Sinai
of thy heart. Wherefore, free thyself from the veils of idle fancies and enter
into My court, that thou mayest be fit for everlasting life and worthy to meet
Me. Thus may death not come upon thee, neither weariness nor trouble.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah’)
January 30
The peoples of the world are fast asleep. Were they to wake
from their slumber, they would hasten with eagerness unto God, the All-Knowing,
the All-Wise. They would cast away everything they possess, be it all the
treasures of the earth, that their Lord may remember them to the extent of
addressing to them but one word. Such is the instruction given you by Him Who
holdeth the knowledge of things hidden, in a Tablet which the eye of creation
hath not seen, and which is revealed to none except His own Self, the
omnipotent protector of all worlds. So bewildered are they in the drunkenness
of their evil desires, that they are powerless to recognize the Lord of all
being, Whose voice calleth aloud from every direction: “There is none other God
but Me, the Mighty, the All-Wise.”
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings
of Baha’u’llah’)
January 29
O Son of Man! Many a day hath passed over thee whilst thou
hast busied thyself with thy fancies and idle imaginings. How long art thou to
slumber on thy bed? Lift up thy head from slumber, for the Sun hath risen to
the zenith, haply it may shine upon thee with the light of beauty.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah’)
January 28
…the Qur’án was an impregnable stronghold unto the people of
Muhammad. In His days, whosoever entered therein, was shielded from the
devilish assaults, the menacing darts, the soul-devouring doubts, and
blasphemous whisperings of the enemy. Upon him was also bestowed a portion of
the everlasting and goodly fruits—the fruits of wisdom, from the divine Tree.
To him was given to drink the incorruptible waters of the river of knowledge,
and to taste the wine of the mysteries of divine Unity.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The
Kitab-i-Iqan’)
January 27
Be not dismayed, O peoples of the world, when the day star
of My beauty is set, and the heaven of My tabernacle is concealed from your
eyes. Arise to further My Cause, and to exalt My Word amongst men. We are with
you at all times, and shall strengthen you through the power of truth. We are
truly almighty. Whoso hath recognized Me, will arise and serve Me with such
determination that the powers of earth and heaven shall be unable to defeat his
purpose.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah’)
January 26
…O my friend, it behooveth Us to exert the highest endeavour
to attain unto that City, [“City of Certitude”] and, by the grace of God and
His loving-kindness, rend asunder the “veils of glory”; so that, with
inflexible steadfastness, we may sacrifice our drooping souls in the path of
the New Beloved. We should with tearful eyes, fervently and repeatedly, implore
Him to grant us the favour of that grace. That city is none other than the Word
of God revealed in every age and dispensation. In the days of Moses it was the
Pentateuch; in the days of Jesus the Gospel; in the days of Muḥammad the
Messenger of God the Qur’án; in this day the Bayán; and in the dispensation of
Him Whom God will make manifest His own Book—the Book unto which all the Books
of former Dispensations must needs be referred, the Book which standeth amongst
them all transcendent and supreme. In these cities spiritual sustenance is
bountifully provided, and incorruptible delights have been ordained. The food
they bestow is the bread of heaven, and the Spirit they impart is God’s
imperishable blessing. Upon detached souls they bestow the gift of Unity,
enrich the destitute, and offer the cup of knowledge unto them who wander in
the wilderness of ignorance. All the guidance, the blessings, the learning, the
understanding, the faith, and certitude, conferred upon all that is in heaven
and on earth, are hidden and treasured within these Cities.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The
Kitab-i-Iqan’)
January 25
They that valiantly labour in quest of God’s will, when once
they have renounced all else but Him, will be so attached and wedded to that
City [“City of Certitude”] that a moment’s separation from it would to them be
unthinkable. They will hearken unto infallible proofs from the Hyacinth of that
assembly, and receive the surest testimonies from the beauty of its Rose and
the melody of its Nightingale. Once in about a thousand years shall this City
be renewed and re-adorned.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Kitab-i-Iqan’)
January 24
The world’s equilibrium hath been upset through the
vibrating influence of this most great, this new World Order. Mankind’s ordered
life hath been revolutionized through the agency of this unique, this wondrous
System—the like of which mortal eyes have never witnessed.
Immerse yourselves in the ocean of My words, that ye may
unravel its secrets, and discover all the pearls of wisdom that lie hid in its
depths. Take heed that ye do not vacillate in your determination to embrace the
truth of this Cause—a Cause through which the potentialities of the might of
God have been revealed, and His sovereignty established. With faces beaming
with joy, hasten ye unto Him. This is the changeless Faith of God, eternal in
the past, eternal in the future. Let him that seeketh, attain it; and as to him
that hath refused to seek it—verily, God is Self-Sufficient, above any need of
His creatures.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah’)
January 23
Only when the lamp of search, of earnest striving, of
longing desire, of passionate devotion, of fervid love, of rapture, and
ecstasy, is kindled within the seeker’s heart, and the breeze of His
loving-kindness is wafted upon his soul, will the darkness of error be dispelled,
the mists of doubts and misgivings be dissipated, and the lights of knowledge
and certitude envelop his being. At that hour will the mystic Herald, bearing
the joyful tidings of the Spirit, shine forth from the City of God resplendent
as the morn, and, through the trumpet-blast of knowledge, will awaken the
heart, the soul, and the spirit from the slumber of negligence. Then will the
manifold favours and outpouring grace of the holy and everlasting Spirit confer
such new life upon the seeker that he will find himself endowed with a new eye,
a new ear, a new heart, and a new mind. He will contemplate the manifest signs
of the universe, and will penetrate the hidden mysteries of the soul. Gazing
with the eye of God, he will perceive within every atom a door that leadeth him
to the stations of absolute certitude. He will discover in all things the
mysteries of divine Revelation and the evidences of an everlasting
manifestation.
- Baha’u’llah (‘The Kitab-i-Iqan’)
January 22
Say: This is the infallible Balance which the Hand of God is
holding, in which all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth are
weighed, and their fate determined, if ye be of them that believe and recognize
this truth. Say: Through it the poor have been enriched, the learned
enlightened, and the seekers enabled to ascend unto the presence of God.
Beware, lest ye make it a cause of dissension amongst you. Be ye as firmly
settled as the immovable mountain in the Cause of your Lord, the Mighty, the
Loving.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah’)
January 21
Know thou, O fruit of My Tree, that the decrees of the
Sovereign Ordainer, as related to fate and predestination, are of two kinds.
Both are to be obeyed and accepted. The one is irrevocable, the other is, as
termed by men, impending. To the former all must unreservedly submit, inasmuch
as it is fixed and settled. God, however, is able to alter or repeal it. As the
harm that must result from such a change will be greater than if the decree had
remained unaltered, all, therefore, should willingly acquiesce in what God hath
willed and confidently abide by the same.
The decree that is impending, however, is such that prayer
and entreaty can succeed in averting it.
God grant that thou who art the fruit of My Tree, and they
that are associated with thee, may be shielded from its evil consequences.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah’)
January 20
We exhort all believers to observe justice and fairness and
to show forth love and contentment. They are indeed the people of Bahá, the
companions of the Crimson Ark. Upon them be the peace of God, the Lord of all
Names, the Creator of the heavens.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Tablets of Baha’u’llah
revealed after the Kitab-i-Aqdas’)
January 19
As to thy question concerning interest and profit on gold
and silver: Some years ago the following passage was revealed from the heaven
of the All-Merciful in honour of the one who beareth the name of God, entitled
Zaynu’l-Muqarrabín —upon him be the glory of the Most Glorious. He—exalted be
His Word—saith: Many people stand in need of this. Because if there were no
prospect for gaining interest, the affairs of men would suffer collapse or
dislocation. One can seldom find a person who would manifest such consideration
towards his fellow-man, his countryman or towards his own brother and would
show such tender solicitude for him as to be well-disposed to grant him a loan
on benevolent terms. Therefore as a token of favour towards men We have
prescribed that interest on money should be treated like other business
transactions that are current amongst men. Thus, now that this lucid
commandment hath descended from the heaven of the Will of God, it is lawful and
proper to charge interest on money, that the people of the world may, in a
spirit of amity and fellowship and with joy and gladness, devotedly engage
themselves in magnifying the Name of Him Who is the Well-Beloved of all
mankind. Verily He ordaineth according to His Own choosing. He hath now made
interest on money lawful, even as He had made it unlawful in the past. Within
His grasp He holdeth the kingdom of authority. He doeth and ordaineth. He is in
truth the Ordainer, the All-Knowing.

May the brightness of His glory shining above the horizon of
bounty rest upon you, O people of Bahá, upon every one who standeth firm and
steadfast and upon those that are well grounded in the Faith and are endued
with true understanding.

the Kitab-i-Aqdas’)

The people of God should make the utmost endeavour that
perchance the fire of hatred and malice which smouldereth in the breasts of
kindreds and peoples may, through the living waters of utterance and the
exhortations of Him Who is the Desire of the world, be quenched and the trees
of human existence may be adorned with wondrous and excellent fruit. He is, in
truth, the Admonisher, the Compassionate, the All-Bountiful.

The Holy Tree [Sadrat] is, in a sense, the Manifestation of
the One True God, exalted be He. The Blessed Tree in the land of Za’farán
referreth to the land which is flourishing, blessed, holy and all-perfumed,
where that Tree hath been planted.

He [the Báb] saith—glorified be His utterance…: “This,
verily, is the thing We promised thee, ere the moment We answered thy call.
Wait thou until nine will have elapsed from the time of the Bayán. Then
exclaim: ‘Blessed, therefore, be God, the most excellent of Makers!’ Say: This,
verily, is an Announcement which none except God hath comprehended. Ye,
however, will be unaware on that day.” In the year nine this Most Great
Revelation arose and shone forth brightly above the horizon of the Will of God.
None can deny it save he who is heedless and doubteth.

O Son of Dust! The wise are they that speak not unless they
obtain a hearing, even as the cup-bearer, who proffereth not his cup till he
findeth a seeker, and the lover who crieth not out from the depths of his heart
until he gazeth upon the beauty of his beloved. Wherefore sow the seeds of
wisdom and knowledge in the pure soil of the heart, and keep them hidden, till
the hyacinths of divine wisdom spring from the heart and not from mire and
clay.

I testify that through Him [Baha’u’llah] the Pen of the Most
High was set in motion, and with His remembrance the Scriptures in the kingdom
of names were embellished. Through Him Thy [God’s] fragrances were wafted, and
the sweet smell of Thy raiment was shed abroad amongst all the dwellers of the
earth and the inmates of heaven. Thou seest and knowest full well, O my God,
how He hath been made to dwell within the most desolate of cities, so that He
may build up the hearts of Thy servants, and hath been willing to suffer the
most grievous abasement, that Thy creatures may be exalted.
- Baha’u’llah (‘Prayers and Meditations by Baha’u’llah’)
January 11
I testify, O my God, that this is the Day whereon Thy
testimony hath been fulfilled, and Thy clear tokens have been manifested, and
Thine utterances have been revealed, and Thy signs have been demonstrated, and
the radiance of Thy countenance hath been diffused, and Thy proof hath been
perfected, and Thine ascendancy hath been established, and Thy mercy hath
overflowed, and the Day-Star of Thy grace hath shone forth with such brilliance
that Thou didst manifest Him Who is the Revealer of Thyself and the Treasury of
Thy wisdom and the Dawning-Place of Thy majesty and power. Thou didst establish
His covenant with every one who hath been created in the kingdoms of earth and
heaven and in the realms of revelation and of creation. Thou didst raise Him up
to such heights that the wrongs inflicted by the oppressors have been powerless
to deter Him from revealing Thy sovereignty, and the ascendancy of the wayward
hath failed to prevent Him from demonstrating Thy power and from exalting Thy
Cause.

O Queen in London!
Incline thine ear unto the voice of thy Lord, the Lord of all mankind,
calling from the Divine Lote-Tree: Verily, no God is there but Me, the
Almighty, the All-Wise! Cast away all that is on earth, and attire the head of
thy kingdom with the crown of the remembrance of thy Lord, the All-Glorious.
He, in truth, hath come unto the world in His most great glory, and all that
hath been mentioned in the Gospel hath been fulfilled. The land of Syria hath
been honoured by the footsteps of its Lord, the Lord of all men, and north and
south are both inebriated with the wine of His presence. Blessed is the man
that hath inhaled the fragrance of the Most Merciful, and turned unto the Dawning-Place
of His Beauty, in this resplendent Dawn. The Mosque of Aqsá vibrateth through
the breezes of its Lord, the All-Glorious, whilst Bathá [1] trembleth at the
voice of God, the Exalted, the Most High. Whereupon every single stone of them
celebrateth the praise of the Lord, through this Great Name.

Blessed be the king whose sovereignty hath withheld him not
from his Sovereign, and who hath turned unto God with his heart. He, verily, is
accounted of those that have attained unto that which God, the Mighty, the
All-Wise, hath willed. Erelong will such a one find himself numbered with the
monarchs of the realms of the Kingdom. Thy Lord is, in truth, potent over all
things. He giveth what He willeth to whomsoever He willeth, and withholdeth
what He pleaseth from whomsoever He willeth. He, verily, is the All-Powerful,
the Almighty.

I implore Thee, O Thou Who causest the dawn to appear, by
Thy Lamp which Thou didst light with the fire of Thy love before all that are
in heaven and on earth, and whose flame Thou feedest with the fuel of Thy
wisdom in the kingdom of Thy creation, to make me to be of those who have
soared in Thine atmosphere, and surrendered their will to Thy decree.

…the tongue is a smouldering fire, and excess of speech a
deadly poison. Material fire consumeth the body, whereas the fire of the tongue

Every receptive soul who hath in this Day inhaled the
fragrance of His garment and hath, with a pure heart, set his face towards the

in My glorious and wondrous remembrance.
